Dr Xu serves as the vice president of Ophthalmological Committee, Shandong Medical Associatio, Shandong Ophthalmological Association, Shandong Eye Quality Control Center, and Chinese Association of Rehabilitation Medicine. Dr. Xu is the honorary president of Diabetic Eye Disease Committee of Shandong Society of Geriatrics, and Ophthalmological Committee of Shandong Association of Pain Medicine. Dr Xu is the Chairman of Shandong Ophthalmic Plastic and Orbital Disease Section, and the member of Shandong Cataract Section,

Dr. Xu has been devoting his efforts to the clinics and investigation on the ocular diseases, especially in surgery on cataract, eyelid or orbital tumors and plastics, and rehabilitation on orbital fractures.
