Dr. Yun Zhang graduated from Shandong Medical College in 1976 and received his Master of Medicine degree from Shandong Medical College in 1981 and his PhD degree from University of Oslo, Norway in 1985. Dr. Zhang is currently Professor of Medicine, Director of Department of Cardiology, Shandong University Qilu Hospital, Director of the Key Laboratory of Cardiovascular Remodeling and Function Research, Chinese Ministry of Education, Chinese National Health Commission and Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, and Director of the State and Shandong Province Joint Key Laboratory of Translational Cardiovascular Medicine. He serves as a member of the international editorial board of Nature Review Cardiology, JACC, JACC Cardiovascular Imaging, Clinical and Experimental Pharmacology and Physiology, and Science in China Series C-Life Sciences. He also serves as Editor in Chief of Chinese Journal of Ultrasonography and Associate Editor of Chinese Journal of Cardiology and Chinese Circulation Journal. He is the Vice President of the Asian-Pacific Association of Echocardiography, Honorary President of the Asian Society of Cardiology, Honorary President of the World Association of Chinese Cardiologists, Immediate Past President of Chinese Society of Ultrasound in Medicine and President of the Chinese Society of Echocardiography. Dr. Zhang is a pioneer of stress echocardiography, Doppler echocardiography, multiplane transesophageal echocardiography and three-dimensional echocardiography in China. As a principal investigator, he has led more than 50 research projects in the field of arteriosclerosis and heart failure. He has authored more than 400 research papers in peer-reviewed international journals, such as N Engl J Med, JAMA, Lancet, Nat Med, Cell Metab, Proc Natl Acad Sci USA, J Am Coll Cardiol, Eur Heart J, Nat Rev Cardiol and 34 textbooks in cardiovascular medicine. He has been awarded 5 state prizes and 48 ministerial or provincial prizes for Scientific and Technological Progress and received more than 20 international and national honorary awards. He was elected a Member of Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2001, Fellow of American College of Cardiology (FACC) in 2008, Fellow of European Society of Cardiology (FESC) in 2012 and Honorary Fellow of the American Society of Echocardiography (HFASE) in 2013.
