Dr. Pan is a nationwide well-known surgeon in the field of head and neck surgery. He is the director of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, as well as the NHC Key Laboratory of Otorhinolaryngology, Qilu Hospital, Cheeloo College of Medicine, Shandong University. He is also the former vice president of Qilu Hospital in Qingdao. Currently, he serves as the leader of the Group of Head and Neck Surgery, the Society of Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, Chinese Medical Association. And he is also the vice editor-in-chief of the Chinese journal of otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, and editor-in-chief of the journal of otolaryngology and ophthalmology of Shandong University. Dr. Pan is a surgical oncologist specializing in head and neck surgery, especially on hypopharyngeal cancer, laryngeal cancer, as well as thyroid cancer. His research efforts are directed towards developing novel conservative surgical procedures in advanced hypopharyngeal cancer and laryngeal cancer. His presented “A novel approach to resection of hypopharyngeal cancer via the paraglottic space” gains intensive attention nationally and internationally, resulting in the significantly increased rate of laryngeal preservation and prolonged overall survival of patients afflicted with hypopharyngeal cancer.
