The Department of Ultrasound of Qilu Hospital of Shandong University was founded in 2000. It is an energetic and youthful department. In the Specialty Reputation Ranking published by Fudan University, the Ultrasonic Medicine of Qilu Hospital of Shandong University has been nominated for four consecutive years and ranked top 20 in China.
At present, the Department of Ultrasound has a total of 60 medical staff, including 4 chief physicians and 5 associate chief physicians. All physicians have master or doctoral degree, including 3 doctoral supervisors, 4 master supervisors, 2 post doctors and 12 doctors. Li Jie, the academic leader of the department, is a third-level professor, also a doctor of Ultrasonic Medicine and a post doctor of Clinical Medicine. He is currently the doctor supervisor (Academic doctor & professional doctor) and is honored with "Outstanding Medical Expert" of Shandong University and “the Top Ten Sonographer” of Shandong Province. At the same time, he is the holder of "Huicai card", which was certificated by Organization Department of Shandong Provincial Party Committee.
In recent decades, the Department of Ultrasound has developed to a high-level and synthetic department with world-class ultrasonic equipments, appropriate talent team construction and competency of graduating master and doctoral students. It has made great achievements in medical care, teaching and research.
The Department of Ultrasound now has set up 4 professional groups, including abdomen ultrasound, vascular, superficial and soft tissue ultrasound, gynecology and obstetrics ultrasound and interventional ultrasound. We serve nearly 1000 patients per day, with more than 30 kinds of routine diagnosis and treatment items and difficult and complicated case consultations.
The Department of Ultrasound also undertakes the teaching tasks of Medical School of Shandong University. In recent years, it has cultivated more than 50 master students and doctoral students. As a National Demonstration Base for Standardized Training of Residents, in recent years, it has cultivated nearly 100 excellent trainees. It has been named Outstanding Training Unit of Qilu Hospital. Meanwhile, the trainees have won many awards in the national-level competitions. The "Qilu Ultrasonic Lecture Hall" and the “Young Doctors’ Teaching Competitions” have made the staff grow up quickly. The department also organizes national-level and provincial-level continuing medical education classes, such as “Qilu High-end Ultrasound Forum”, which has been influential in the academic circles.
The Department of Ultrasound lays emphasis on the scientific research, and nearly 100 papers have been published in prestigious journals, of which about 30 papers were included in SCI as the first author or corresponding author. Especially in recent years, under the leadership of Professor Li Jie, a scientific research team has been set up and multi-disciplinary cooperation been promoted. In-depth studies have been carried out on the ultrasound contrast agents, such as liquid fluorocarbon nanodroplets and nanobubbles, carrying and release of drugs, and the biological effects of ultrasound microbubbles on tumor microenvironment. The Department of Ultrasound is now in charge of a general program of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and 17 scientific research projects at the provincial and bureau level. In recent years, the staff has edited and co-edited more than 10 teaching materials and professional publications.
The Department of Ultrasound also strengthens communication and cooperation with domestic and foreign famous ultrasound experts, and gradually builds a high-end talent training mode. In recent years, a number of personnel have been sent abroad to strengthen international exchanges.
