The department of Acupuncture-moxibustion and Tuina was founded in 1958 by Yugui Zheng, Yuwen Zang, Daozheng Tian, Guocai Wang and Xinsheng Lai. It has a history of 61 years.  Since its establishment, our department has made remarkable achievements in the field of integrated Traditional Chinese and Western medicine. The Acupuncture and Tuina Laboratory has laid a foundation for scientific research; Our department participated in and presided over the meridian research work of Shandong Medical College in 1960; Research on acupuncture anesthesia was carried out in 1966; In 1977, the experiments of laser meridian recessive sensing transmission and photoacupuncture meridian measurement were carried out. In 1987, it was granted the right to confer the clinical Master degree of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine. In 2003, it was granted the right to confer the clinical Doctor's degree of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine. In 2014, it was awarded as the construction unit of the first batch of TCM key discipline (Acupuncture) in Shandong Province. Our department is the director and vice chairman of pain Committee of Chinese Society of Acupuncture and Moxibustion, the secretary general unit, the vice chairman of Shandong Acupuncture and Moxibustion Society, the vice chairman of pain Committee of Shandong Society of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the vice chairman of Shandong Pain Medical Association.

Since the establishment of the department, our department has been adhering to the patient-centered, quality-oriented and performance-oriented philosophy, strictly implementing the on-duty and shift transfer system, ensuring the smooth and complete implementation of the three-level physician responsibility system, learning the medical quality management system and laws and regulations, and improving professional competence. Our department has 9 consultation rooms: expert clinic, general clinic, acupuncture treatment room, tuina treatment room, moxibustion treatment room, acupotomy room, laser treatment room, interventional acupuncture and moxibustion room. There are 19 outpatient beds.

 

There are 13 professionals in the general practice, including 1 professor and chief physician, 1 associate professor and associate chief physician, 6 attending physicians and 5 resident physicians (including 2 master supervisors).
In this province, our department takes the lead in requiring medical personnel to strictly operate aseptically and standardize medical order. Disposable acupuncture needles were used to ensure the safety of treatment. It is equipped with disposable bedsheets, treatment sheets, and closed bed units to protect the privacy of patients and create a humanized service environment. With bond neck lumbar curvature of therapeutic apparatus and techniques of acupuncture, therapeutic apparatus, tsinghua tongfang body composition analyzer, LHH - 500 type Ⅱ, ALD 650 nm semiconductor laser therapy unit, TDP lamp, including a variety of electric MaYi, etc.

 

Acupuncture and moxibustion supplement therapy is the characteristic of our department. Acupuncture and moxibustion is used to prevent complications caused by surgery, radiotherapy and drugs. The research scope includes acupuncture treatment of postoperative gastroparesis syndrome, early postoperative inflammatory intestinal obstruction, postoperative urinary retention, postoperative hiccup, nausea and vomiting after chemotherapy. Our department is divided into general direction of acupuncture and moxibustion, direction of acupuncture and moxibustion nerve and blood vessel, direction of acupuncture and moxibustion gynecology and obstetrics, direction of acupuncture and moxibustion for children, direction of acupuncture and moxibustion tumor, direction of acupuncture and moxibustion five senses, etc.

Other diagnostic and therapeutic features of our department include acupuncture and moxibustion treatment of smooth muscle dynamic disorders, crochet treatment of tennis elbow, diagnosis and treatment of apoplectic disease and its scar moxibustion prevention, and acupuncture treatment of dysphagia, etc. Our department is the only department in Shandong province that has introduced crochet technique to treat this disease. Pushing and scraping, lifting and inserting, hooking, shaking and massage are used in local lesions to remove adhesion contracture, accelerate local metabolism, improve nutrition in affected areas and promote tissue repair. At the same time, combined with acupuncture and moxibustion, cupping therapy, the cure rate of 2-4 times is more than 70%.
Children Tuina treatment of diarrhea in infants and young children quickly, no pain, and non-toxic side effects, generally 1-3 times cured. Other special therapies carried out by our department include acupuncture for obesity, tuina for intervertebral disc herniation, tuina and dredge therapy for acute mastitis, etc.

 

Acupuncture and moxibustion is widely used. According to international classification of diseases (ICD - 10) three digits classification statistics, its effective diseases have more than 340 kinds, about 20% of diseases known to man, involves internal medicine, surgery, gynecology, pediatrics, dermatology and other departments. The diseases it treats are mainly motor, nervous, immune, endocrine, visceral and other systemic diseases, among which about 100 kinds of diseases have good curative effects. In 2018, nearly 100,000 outpatient and ward visits were completed in the general department, with 3,498 ward consultations, accounting for 4.0% of the total inpatients in the hospital. There are more than 300 clinical indications, with rich experience in research and treatment.

In order to enhance learning, facilitate communication, improve clinical professional ability and scientific research level, our department regularly carries out academic lectures.

Over the years, it has been engaged in teaching clinical medicine of Shandong University for seven years, eight years, school of Nursing, international students, internship program and exchange work at home and abroad. In the past five years, it has received nearly 300 people from 8 countries or organizations including the United States, The United Kingdom and Australia for visits and academic exchanges. The doctors in our department also accomplished the task of foreign medical aid excellently.

Clinical research is smooth muscle dynamic disorders, non-surgical treatment of orthopedics and traumatology, especially cervical and lumbar spine diseases, acupuncture and moxibustion research on neuromuscular system and endocrine and metabolic system diseases; Based on the ren pulse essence, the spectrum of acupoints of diseases and the spectrum of diseases of acupoints, acupuncture methods, especially the experimental study of moxibustion are the focus of many scientific research fields.
