Nuclear Medicine

The work of the department is mainly focused on the daily clinical work of nuclear medicine such as PET/CT, SPECT(/CT) imaging, with the preparation, research and development of radiopharmaceuticals as supporting. The main existing diagnosis and treatment equipments in the department include: A Siemens INTEVO 16 in Germany, a General Electric MILLENIUM VG dual probe SPECT(/CT) in the USA, the American General Electric Company DISCOVERY STE positron emission tomography PET /CT, the American General Electric Company MINITRACE model cyclotron and TRACER LAB synthesis module, Beijing Paite Company’s PET-MS-II synthesis module. Using these equipments, the department can produce clinically commonly used radiopharmaceuticals such as 18F-FDG, 11C-choline, 18F-PSMA and 18F-DOPA and perform routine and creative nuclear medicine examinations.

PET/CT imaging is mainly used for early diagnosis, staging, re-staging after treatment and evaluation of therapy effect of common tumors such as lung cancer, gastrointestinal tumors, lymphoma, melanoma, as well as delineation of biological targets for radiotherapy, myocardial metabolism imaging, and brain metabolism imaging. SPECT/CT can be used for whole-body bone scanning, renal dynamic and GFR measurement, thyroid imaging, myocardial perfusion imaging, parathyroid imaging, gastric emptying imaging.

The Department of Nuclear Medicine is not limited to the clinical application of 18F-FDG PET/CT, we also actively carry out the research, development and imaging of other positron imaging agents to make up for the defects and deficiencies of 18F-FDG single imaging agent, including early diagnosis, clinical staging, postoperative detection and efficacy evaluation of 18F-PSMA in patients with prostate cancer, application of 18F-DOPA in endocrine neoplasms and Parkinson's disease, the application of 11C-choline in tumors, all of these are in the leading position in Shandong Province.

While carrying out basic clinical work, the Department of Nuclear Medicine attaches importance to clinical scientific experiments. It has undertaken a number of scientific research projects, including National Natural Science Foundation of China and Key Project of Shandong, and won a number of Shandong Provincial Science and Technology Progress Awards.
