Ophthalmology department of Qilu Hospital founded in the early 1950s has a long history as an independent ophthalmology department. At that time, it was called as the ophthalmology department of Affiliated Hospital of Qilu Medical College, and Dr. Sun Guiyu was appointed as the first director of this department. After sixty years of development, clinic, ward, teaching and research section and laboratory of ophthalmology was successively established. So far, ophthalmology department embraces cataract, glaucoma, keratopathy, optometry, vitreoretinopathy, strabismus and pediatric ophthalmology, ocular trauma and eye plastic as secondary specialties . The annual outpatients are more than 60,000 people, with the inpatients more than 1,000 people. Ophthalmology department has a team of high-quality physicians. At present, there are 11 chief physicians, 3 vice-chief physicians, 10 attending physicians and 4 resident physicians, most of them have studied abroad.

Under the efforts of all previous hospital leaders and ophthalmologists, ophthalmology department have developed rapidly and maintained the domestic advanced level of both clinical treatment and diagnostic instruments.
