Recently, Department of Education of Shandong Province officially issued Notice on the Winners List of the Ninth Teaching Achievement Award of Shandong Province (Higher Education). The teaching achievement “Construction and Practice of the ‘Five-in-One’ Excellent Talent Training System in Emergency and Critical Care Medicine” presided over by Professor Chen Yuguo, President of Qilu Hospital of Shandong University, won the special prize of the provincial teaching achievement award. This is the first time for the hospital to win the special prize of the provincial teaching achievement award, which is a historic breakthrough.


Chen Yuguo’s team has been committed to reform and innovation of the training mode for excellent talents in emergency and critical care medicine for many years. With the development of emergency and critical care medicine as its core, and based on medicine, liberal arts, preventive medicine, engineering, and scientific research, the team has constructed the “Five-in-One” talent training system, training loads of excellent doctors in this field.

Chen Yuguo attaches great importance to undergraduate teaching. During his tenure as the vice president in charge of teaching, the hospital was selected into the first batch of National Clinical Teaching and Training Demonstration Centers and became a member of the National Clinical Practice Education Alliance for Hospitals Affiliated with Universities, laying a solid foundation for the overall improvement of the hospital's teaching level. In 2020, the clinical practice education quality ranked 12th among national hospitals affiliated with universities. As the director of Emergency Medicine Teaching and Research Office, Professor Chen gave lectures to undergraduates, and presided over 6 undergraduate teaching and research projects at the university and provincial level. Professor Chen is the editor-in-chief of 9 textbooks including Emergency Medicine, and the MOOC “Emergency Medicine” he presided over was among the first batch of the national first-class undergraduate courses. Moreover, Professor Chen Yuguo won honorary titles including the Outstanding Teacher of Qilu Hospital and the Advanced Educator of Shandong University. He kept strengthening the construction of teaching groups, 4 undergraduate teaching and research projects at different levels applied by young clinical teachers of the Department of Emergency Medicine were approved under whose guidance.

In recent years, Qilu Hospital has thoroughly implemented the spirit of the document Guiding Opinions on Accelerating the Innovation Development of Medical Education by the General Office of the State Council, actively responded to the strategy of "China's Education Modernization 2035" deployed by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council, attached great importance to theoretical research and teaching model innovation of undergraduate education, and actively gave full play to the core role of undergraduate education in education and teaching. Teaching Achievement Award of Shandong Province (Higher Education) is selected every four years. 607 achievements in the province were awarded this time, only 32 of which won the special prize, granting teaching achievements which have major innovations on higher education and teaching theories, have made great breakthroughs in education and teaching reform practice, have made great contributions to improving teaching level and realizing training goals, and have had a significant impact and been at the leading level domestically.
