In order to raise people's proper understanding of the importance of breastfeeding and enhance public's attention and support for breastfeeding, on the afternoon of August 1, the Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic of Qilu Hospital of Shandong University held a launching ceremony of the breastfeeding week on the theme of " To promote breastfeeding, health education should go first". Hou Junping, Secretary of the Party Committee of Qilu Hospital of Shandong University attended the ceremony and delivered a speech. Vice President Han Hui, and discipline leader of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Kong Beihua attended the event and delivered speeches. Luo Xia, Director of the Department of Obstetrics hosted the meeting. Gao Fei, Director of the Party Office, An Fengling, Secretary of the Party Branch of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Neurology, and Neurosurgery, Dong Laidong, Director of the Outpatient Department, Song Kun, Director of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, staff from the President Office, Medical Department, Nursing Department and other functional departments, as well as the medical and nursing team of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology attended the meeting.
Hou Junping pointed out in his speech that breast milk is a close emotional link between mothers and their children. the World Breastfeeding Week aims to promote the proper understanding of breastfeeding among society and the public, implement the optimal fertility policy, protect maternal and infant rights, as well as promote breastfeeding. Hou Junping said that as a baby-friendly hospital, various departments of Qilu Hospital have been conscientiously implementing the Maternal and Child Health Care Law, vigorously carrying out science popularization on breastfeeding, and innovatively constructing and managing the baby-friendly hospital over the years. He hoped that in line with the concept of " To promote breastfeeding, health education should go first ", medical staff would actively carry out the 2022 Breastfeeding Week promotion activities, strengthen promotion, education, service supply, and policy co-ordination, protect maternal and infant rights, and work across different levels of society to build a "warm chain" to support breastfeeding.
Under the title "Policy Implementation of Promoting Breastfeeding at the Hospital Level", Han Hui explained the hospital's success in promoting breastfeeding from the aspects of actively carrying out popularization and education, training staff on breastfeeding, strengthening the construction of medical ethics, and abiding by the norms of baby-friendly hospitals. He said that the hospital will continue to improve the policy system, service network and facilities to support breastfeeding.
Kong Beihua talked about the significance of breastfeeding based on the whole nation, introducing the exemplary and leading role of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Qilu Hospital has been playing in promoting breastfeeding and establishing a baby-friendly hospital from the perspective of the development of the discipline. Kong Beihua said that the achievements we made were of the past, and he hoped that all medical staff of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology continue to promote breastfeeding as well as protect maternal and infant’s health.
Luo Xia interviewed Han Hui and Kong Beihua about breastfeeding. During the activity, Luo Xia expressed her gratitude to hospital leaders for the high attention they paid to breastfeeding, and hoped that this activity would help every mother and infant get a timely, satisfactory, effective and continuous breastfeeding experience. Zhao Jing, head nurse of the obstetrics and gynecology clinic, introduced the activities of breastfeeding week, ranging from tips on breastfeeding, the process of obstetric examination, prenatal nutrition, to postpartum emotional management and rehabilitation.
The breastfeeding week is aimed at protecting, promoting, and supporting breastfeeding. Through lecturing, one-on-one practical guidance, micro-videos on breastfeeding knowledge, and group activities etc., families with newborns will be provided with all-round and comprehensive guidance of breastfeeding, which is of great significance to promoting breastfeeding and ensuring the health of mothers and babies.
