Chen Yuguo Leads Delegation to Europe to Expand Institutional Cooperation

From January 28 to February 2, Chen Yuguo, President of Qilu Hospital, led a delegation to Europe to further deepen friendly exchanges and cooperation with medical institutions and research institutes in Germany, Sweden, Spain, and other countries. Zhang Cheng, Vice President of Cheeloo College of Medicine and Director of the Department of Cardiology of Qilu Hospital, Xu Feng, Vice President of Qilu Hospital, and the heads of the International Office, Department of Hematology, and Department of Emergency Medicine, along with relevant scholars, accompanied the visit.
 
During the stay in Germany, the delegation visited Universittsklinikum Schleswig-Holstein, where they had in-depth bilateral discussions on hospital discipline construction and development, digital media and information platforms, and skills training. Subsequently, the delegation toured the Clinical Skills Training Center of the Kiel campus of the Medical Center, Department of Cardiology, and Department of Emergency Medicine, and obtained insights on the overall construction of the hospital. The two sides discussed mutual concerns about data sharing and scientific research cooperation, and reached a preliminary agreement on cooperation.
 
During the stay in Sweden, the delegation met with Professor Martin Bergö, Vice-President of Karolinska Institute. Both sides jointly reviewed the fruitful results achieved in talent cultivation and academic exchanges over the 23 years of cooperation. The two sides reached a consensus on continuing to deepen scientific research cooperation, establishing mutual postdoctoral positions, promoting exchanges among young scholars, among other aspects, on the basis of diverse projects such as the "Shandong University Global First-Class Discipline Cooperation Program" in the future.
 
At the Karolinska University Hospital and Danderyd Hospital in Sweden, the delegation visited their respective advantageous disciplines and representative departments. Both hospitals provided detailed introductions about their current medical status and progress in clinical research. Xu Feng, representing Qilu Hospital, introduced the related situation of the hospital. Both sides had in-depth discussions on cooperating in clinical research projects, model and data sharing, among other aspects, and formed a preliminary plan for future cooperation. During this period, Zhang Cheng was invited to give an academic report titled "Mechanisms and intervention strategies of cardiovascular remodeling regulated by renin-angiotensin system" at the Cardiovascular Research Series Seminar at Karolinska Institute.
 
During the stay in Spain, the delegation visited the Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre and held discussions with Dr. Carmen Martinez de Pancorbo, president and managing director of the hospital, and Dr. Joaquin Arenas, director of the hospital research institute. Both sides signed a strategic cooperation memorandum of understanding, reaching a comprehensive consensus on personnel exchanges, joint innovation, data sharing, platform co-construction, among other aspects. The delegation also visited the hospital's Department of Hematology, Department of Cardiology, and Department of Emergency Medicine, and held academic discussions and cooperation talks with the department heads, exploring further cooperation based on the memorandum of understanding.
 
During the visit, the delegation held the "Qilu Hospital of Shandong University Talent Recruitment Conference" in Sweden, with the attendance of more than 40 young scholars. At the conference, Chen Yuguo detailed the latest talent policy of Qilu Hospital, pointing out that the hospital has long attached great importance to talent and technological innovation, and through comprehensive measures and systematic efforts, it has opened up channels for attracting talents at home and abroad, continuously optimizing the comprehensive development environment for all types of talents. In the future, the hospital will continue to build a more internationally competitive talent development system and sincerely invites outstanding talents from overseas to join. The delegation then answered a series of questions of concern to the young scholars. The recruitment conference was chaired by Dr. Li Nailin, Associate Professor and head of academic cooperation with China at the Karolinska Institute. Professor Cao Yihai, lifetime professor at Karolinska Institute, foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and a 1978 alumnus of Cheeloo College of Medicine of Shandong University, attended the event and delivered a speech.
